found the balfa/glc bottom out pic. youd have to either have crappy suspension setup or be a major hack to bottom that drop that bad....

It looks like that landing isnt too steep especially where he landed, and it looks like he effin sent it off that drop. If his suspension was properly set up for downhill racing (he seems to be racing-- hence the number plate) then Id say if you didnt bottom your suspension off that it would be set up improperly.

ive hit drops back in my "0mg how big can i huck?!" days that were alot bigger than that, to alot flatter landings, and bottomed less hard than that......

sure my bike wasnt tuned 100% towards racing, but id rather lose some small bump sensitivity and gain a whole lot better and more effective damping on big hits, especially if i knew that the race course (or whatever im riding on) had big drops/hits.

I agree, but you have to excuse joe, he rides an avy...

Its hard to understand unless you've had extensive time on them, they arent like normal race shocks that you would set up accordingly for each course.

the landing on that drop is steeper than it appears in the pic

And the tires are bottomed. That takes skills on a landing like that. And joe, only reason you found was cuase i told you where to look ;-)
