Post Site Direction
As stated in the "Is there any mgmt" thread. I am starting a site direction discussion.

The purpose of this thread is to give everyone the opportunity to toss out ideas of where they would like to see the site go.
This is a constructive discussion. Any posts that are not constructive will be deleted. If you just want to bash then send those comments to me in a PM. I will read them and respond.

Here is a re-posting of what was stated in the last thread.

Please throw out your ideas of what you are looking for with Busted Spoke.
If you want to volunteer to help do some stuff then great. We would be happy to try and organize some stuff and make the site fun and informative for all. Keep in mind we all have jobs and personal lives.
We all love biking hence we are on a Mountain Biking forum.

Toss out your constructive ideas. I would love to hear them.
Feel free to PM me if you would prefer to communicate that way. I know some of you do.

This is not meant to be a bashing discussion, but a positive creative idea discussion.

Bustedspoke "group rides" a couple times a year in popular centrally located riding spots. Photo or video contests that are user-voted and rewarded with prizes. Delete alot of forums and consolidate. Forums like video and photography can easily be absorbed by NBR, etc. The fewer forums, the more interaction amongst members.

I like the group ride idea.
Where would be a good place?

Any other ideas?

First off my little contibution will be to help remove the spammer scumbags real time as I see them. Now that I can remove them with one easy step, the days of the first page totally riddled with spam can be easily removed.

I agree on the group ride day somewhere. Personally I love Highland and I think the majority of folks here do as well. Diablo is too far for the groups I ride with, and I don't like the 4 hour drive. Maybe something could be done with Mark at Highland to get a couple of passes for a photo contest or something like that. There was a contest like that I think 2 years ago? Maybe a "Best photo at Highland" contest or something. Winner gets a day pass or something like that....

I can see where less variety of forums could help out. Maybe the Lounge and BS Theater could be combined? Trail board and Racing board combined? For Sale and Wanted in one board with a selection that posts right up top for one or the other - select which one and the system posts WTD or FS in the header (not sure if that can be done). While the Jobs board is good in this economy, is it really worth keeping? Not sure.

Lets keep the ideas coming.

There used to be organized bustedspoke trail rides at places like Vietnam. Locations like that, or ones in southern NH would be ideal for a wide range of people. While DH is fun, there is more interaction to be had on trail rides, which is the point of bringing people together on group rides.

Things are a bit different now than they were 3 years ago because there is no longer a bustedspoke team. The sponsors from that team were also contributors to prizes for contests on the site. Without any sponsors, you're best bet would be to follow through with the suggestion to contact venues such as Highland for day passes as prizes. Considering that they, and other venues have their own forums on this board, a couple comp passes isn't too much to ask. It'll certainly draw attention to the forums again. The "best picture from highland" is a great way to start things off.

The bustedspoke team was a huge asset to this site IMO. It promoted the site all around new england, and the site really became a place to potentially find race pictures. There was some heavy traffic during those times. Every monday you could count on there being photos from race xyz that weekend, and racers knew it. The team also gave young riders a chance to belong to something and grow as riders. I know a few that straight up stopped riding when the team died off. I think the management has their work cut out for them to ever reach that level again though. The guys who made the team and contests happen put in alot of their personal time; timebomb, auntester, etc. They really made the site what it was, and even though most people label them as nazi's for the way they ran things, the vibrancy of this site when they were in control is undeniable.

I'd look at the way things were ran before, and how they're run now, and follow suit.

I think a "Best Avatar of 2010" contest is needed. Kona Clump wins hands down for his current avatar - although I think it qualifies for 2009. If so, I think he needs a belated "Best Avatar of 2009" award of some sort.

It's is sad to say but I have to agree with Mr Sparkles. More involvement by the site on events in the area would help tremendously. This was easier back when there was a team because they would be at most events anyways so the banners would be flying and such.
- Site contests such as Best Crash Photo, Best Bike Photo, What is your Bliss?
- Product testing? Maybe solicit for product and pick a user on the site to test and write a review?
-Its obvious there is $$ coming in since there are so many banner ads, get some stickers and start handing them out!!!
-Pay Aunty and Joe to come back!

Agreed but not the best for the work environment - but thats pretty much true for forums in general. this site is a sausage fest and not sure that helps.....

Huge group rides are tough - have it more like an event with various smaller group rides and meet up after for a keg bbq etc.

-Less sub forums
-Re-do the site, new colors, new layout, etc.... keep it simple though.
- Stickers, Tee-Shirts, Group Rides, stuff like that, Im down to pay $ for some well made stickers and shirts and I can garentee alot of other BSers are too.
- Ive always loved the idea of BS shirts that say "Hello my name is ..." with your user name, that way people get to put a face to a name at race, rides etc...
-Try to get some more bike related ads on the page, that way it helps the industry, I feel sometimes it is dumb to be staring at ads that talk about buy new trucks and killing deer. Make the ads deal with cycling.

These are just my suggestions, some may be impossible, others may be easy...

Even if you don't wanna ride, stop by and heckle, or man the grille or something.

Leominster/Fitchburg Ma area. PM for details. Unless you're a d-bag.
